For 51 years I’ve celebrated Easter in some way shape or form, I’ve considered deeply the pain Christ went though for me, I’ve thought long and hard about why God sent his son, I’ve piled guilt on myself blaming Christ’s suffering on my failures, I’ve thought about how the disciples felt as he laid in that tomb silent, wondering if they had really understood if Jesus was the Christ, but I believe through all this we have missed something pivotal about what happened through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ… He won, and through his victory we win and have access to the spoils of his victory, he walked out of a tomb alive and breathing. Some of us need to get a good look at what the victory on the cross looks like and live and love radically in that celebration daily, the world needs followers who operate in victory worse than they need a theology…. hell has lost, they’re on the run. We can rest in Jesus’s victory today.
“Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it. And when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled. Now the men of Israel and Judah arose and shouted, and pursued the Philistines as far as the entrance of the valley and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell along the road to Shaaraim, even as far as Gath and Ekron. Then the children of Israel returned from chasing the Philistines, and they plundered their tents. And David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem, but he put his armor in his tent.”
I Samuel 17:51-54 NKJV
